Flood hydrology underpins all our flood risk work and we need to make improvements to the way we analyse floods so we can manage risk in catchments under a changing climate. We are beginning a significant and exciting 6 year Flood Hydrology Improvements Programme for the UK. We have formed a new team and will deliver projects improving hydrometric data, our scientific understanding and modelling techniques and our UK-wide capability in flood hydrology. We are committed to opening hydrology to a wider audience and to encourage new voices in the discipline. Much of this work will be delivered as projects buying in external expertise from consultants or academics.
This role will work alongside the grade 6 hydrologists and project managers providing stakeholder engagement at the programme and project level. Building relationships with external partners and internal teams to ensure we work effectively in collaboration, sharing what we are doing and create opportunities for engagement.
Your ability to work collaboratively, build trusting relationships, communicate effectively and maintain networks at all levels of the organisation internally and externally will be critical to success.
The newly formed team is delivering the Flood Hydrology Improvements programme consisting of project managers, senior hydrologists, and a grade 7 manager acting as the programme executive. The team has mixed backgrounds recruited from academia, consultancy and internally to create coverage across the sector.
This team sits within Evidence and Risk (E&R), a national team of 140 that provides expert analysis and advice to manage flood risk and improve resilience through delivering modelling and hydrology.
You’ll be an experienced stakeholder and engagement specialist who:

Quickly forms and maintains relationships and networks of internal and external stakeholders, facilitates meetings, runs networks and communities of practice.
Understands how to influence and take the lead in/manage discussions ensuring stakeholder management, early engagement and collaborative advantage is built into programmes of work, and that evaluation provides the intelligence to continually refine and improve allowing efficiency, innovation and quality engagement to thrive.
Can spot stakeholder and engagement risks, issues and opportunities, and through using evidence and communication, raise with leaders and existing governance groups outlining approaches to shape discussions on how to mitigate risks and issues and maximise opportunities to achieve outcomes.
The ability to bring together virtual teams to work collaboratively to achieve tangible outcomes.
Can work within ambiguous, uncertain and changing situations.
Has relevant experience engaging with the research community
