We’re seeking a positive, proactive, organised, and hard-working Project Manager to join us in delivering the Flood Hydrology Improvements Programme.
Flood hydrology underpins all our flood risk work and we need to make improvements to the way we analyse floods so we can manage risk in catchments under a changing climate. We are beginning a significant and exciting 6 year Flood Hydrology Improvements Programme for the UK. We have formed a new team and will deliver projects improving hydrometric data, our scientific understanding and modelling techniques and our UK-wide capability in flood hydrology. Much of this work will be delivered as projects buying external expertise from consultants and academics. High quality project definition documents and contracts will be essential to the future success of the programme.
The project management role will lead delivery of high quality outputs, managing projects to time. You will ensure the right engagement and communication on projects is undertaken, and that technical scrutiny forms part of the quality assurance process when delivering the projects.
You will work alongside the grade 6 hydrologists and project managers to manage the projects and lead delivery of high quality outputs in line with Environment Agency procedures.
The newly formed team is delivering the Flood Hydrology Improvements programme consisting of project managers, senior hydrologists, and a grade 7 manager acting as the programme executive. The team has mixed backgrounds recruited from academia, consultancy and internally to create coverage across the sector.
This team sits within Evidence and Risk (E&R), a national team of 140 that provides expert analysis and advice to manage flood risk and improve resilience through delivering modelling and hydrology.
Proven, professional project management skills with experience of the Environment Agency processes and Best Practice
Experience in successfully managing risks, suppliers, finances, communications, negotiating, internal and external stakeholders - to ensure that outputs are delivered successfully to achieve the required benefits.
Ability to work collaboratively and engage with others, and communicate effectively
A successful track record of planning and delivery in a project environment, as well as delivering high quality outputs..
An understanding of the pitfalls of poor project definition and the challenges of working with technical/academic suppliers and successful management of risks
Experience of using Microsoft Office and Project.
Ideally a Prince2 Practitioner
A background or some experience in a scientific discipline is desirable for accurate translation of scientific needs into project documents
An appreciation of the role of hydrology in Flood Risk Management .
