We have a great culture and working environment, and there are rich rewards from the high-profile work we do to protect communities from the devastating effects of flooding and climate change. We’re diverse and inclusive in all that we do; taking a one team approach focussed on supporting, empowering and developing ourselves and each other.

Working flexibly, located across the country, you’ll be able to develop your career whilst helping to raise awareness of the ground-breaking projects that we deliver to help us be a world leader in managing flood risk.

We are looking to recruit two Team Leaders on temporary basis (12 months).

This is a great opportunity to take on a leading team management role in the National Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Improvements Portfolio team. If successful, you will join a team of project and programme professionals and will manage members of the team who are delivering business improvement nationally across the organisation.

This is your chance to shape and develop our project management service and improve how we deliver our products into Operations.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be asked to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training will be available to support you with your incident role.

Everyone starting in a new role will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed. As part of your comprehensive induction, you will also be provided with all the equipment required for your role.

Please read the candidate pack for more information about working for us, our extensive range of employee benefits and how to apply.
Our Improvements Portfolio drives innovation and continuous improvements across FCRM and Incident Management and plays a key part in delivering our corporate and FCRM strategies and delivery plans. This covers almost all of the national business improvement in FCRM, some £130m worth over the next four years.

Our track record for delivery is exceptional, and we pride ourselves on building a one team approach between the directorate and Operations colleagues.
As a Team Leader, you will lead, coach and motivate your direct reports and ensure that they are effective and used efficiently.

You'll need to embrace innovation, challenge existing practices and come up with creative ideas to deliver more effective ways of working.

You must possess highly developed communication skills for dealing with conflicting or sensitive situations.

Previous line management experience is highly desirable.

Experience of working in a project environment is essential.

The successful candidate is expected to:
• Lead and line manage a team of Grade 5 Project Managers or Grade 4 Apprentices (a mix of contract, assignment and permanent staff).
• Manage individual performance of all your team members and the development of those on EA terms.
• Lead in recruiting, inducting, coaching and developing your team.
• Help to drive our continuous improvements initiative around our ways of working.
We welcome applications from all under-represented groups and offer flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.

You can choose your base location from any of our offices across the country.

The role will require some occasional travel, principally to Bristol.

Internal applicants will need their line manager’s permission to apply.

For questions relating to this role, please contact Frank Lopez, Resources Manager - frank.lopez@environment-agency.gov.uk

Interviews are expected be held on March 20th or 21st via MS Teams or face-to-face at our Horizon House office in Bristol.

If you consent to be recruited onto a reserve list, we’ll hold your details for 6 months and we may offer you an alternative post.
