We have a large portfolio of continuity evolving commercial activity across the Environment Agency worth approximately £900m.

Defra group Commercial provide professional support to us – including procurement, and contract and supplier relationship management – through a shared services model that was established in 2017.

In this role you will act as an essential interface between the Environment Agency and Defra group Commercial. You will ensure we have a productive and collaborative relationship with them, and receive the commercial services and support that we need.

You will provide support to contract managers across the Environment Agency, helping them to work effectively in partnership with Defra group Commercial.

In this role you will:
- lead our partnership work with Defra group Commercial, ensuring they provide us with the support and services we need to meet our current and future needs
- work with Defra group Commercial and internal colleagues to oversee, review and mitigate risks, and escalate these when appropriate
- work with our internal commercial networks to understand their requirements, develop our commercial capabilities, and support teams through any changes that may affect how they work
- lead internal communications and engagement for our commercial activities across the Environment Agency

You will lead a small team of security advisors and access the advice of the professional security teams in Defra group Security. You will be part of the Corporate Management, Assurance and Security team, focused on protecting and enabling the organisation to be resilient and function effectively.
To help enhance our capability, and strengthen how we work in partnership with Defra group Commercial, you will need the following skills and experience:

- strong leadership skills to adapt how we work with Defra and maximise the benefits of our commercial portfolio

- build effective partnerships with Defra to jointly manage risks, agree priorities and ensure we support contract managers across the organisation

- understanding of wider influences on our commercial activity, so we can adapt our strategic direction and continuously improve how we operate to meet changing demands

- develop strong internal networks to better understand and articulate our needs, and spot and resolve issues quickly

- comfortable working with senior people, the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands on yourself and your team

- innovative and flexible, and the ability to problem solve to meet strategic goals will be key

In this role you will be responsible for the success of our commercial model for the organisation.
