We’re looking for an energetic and dynamic individual to join Producer Responsibility Regulatory Services (PRRS).

This role is within a newly developed team in PRRS and provides an exciting opportunity for an investigations lead to join the team and help prioritise and drive forward interventions to remove unlawful operators from producer responsibility regimes.

You will lead a team to carry out compliance and enforcement in relation to producer responsibility, providing legal advice, guidance and support to colleagues by leading criminal investigations for the North of England.

You will ensure; decisions are made on sound legislative grounds, provision of value for money in line with Defra’s strategy and excellent customer service.

Specifically, your role will require the tackling of risk profiled, high risk sites within the Producer Responsibility regimes and carrying out activities leading to the disruption of activities through to full criminal investigations and prosecutions ensuring Producers, Treatment Operators and Compliance Schemes are operating on a fair competitive level.

Through your work you’ll develop strong working relationships and have a focus on developing your skills in others, ensuring we develop a thoroughly robust and professional team capable of tackling all appropriate levels of enforcement.
In 2016, we helped divert 8.8 million tonnes of waste from landfill by supporting industry, business and public bodies to take responsibility for waste produced, imported, sold and used.

To ensure the UK complies with targets we:

• issue advice and guidance;
• register producer and compliance scheme obligations;
• permit operators to issue evidence of recovery/recycling;
• risk profile compliance monitoring
• investigate, pursue and prosecute offenders through either criminal or enforcement undertakings/civil sanctions
• Previous experience of leading criminal investigations is essential. You will display leadership qualities and can apply appropriate legislation.
• Experience of witness statements, handling exhibits, completing disclosure, conducting both witness and offender interviews, legislative knowledge (PACE/POCA/RIPA) intelligence.
• Experience of preparing case files and attendance at Magistrates & Crown Court.
• Excellent communications skills. Dealing with a wide range of audiences.
• Experience of liaising with legal, partner agencies and counsel.
• Excellent Team working skills.
• Promoting coherent ways of working across teams and a culture of ‘one team’.
• Analysis of issues and problems, identifying solutions, taking remedial action and communicating effectively.
• Produce factually accurate reports following collation, analysis and interpretation of data and/or information.
• Ensure the timely delivery of activities within the team and across the wider business, providing support to colleagues.
• Competent use of Microsoft Word and Excel applications are desirable.
