We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and organised leader of people to work within a thriving Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) department within our East Anglia Area. You will be one of three line managers who lead a large team focussed on managing flood risk within the catchment of the River Great Ouse that flows from Buckinghamshire through Cambridgeshire, the lowland Fens and into the Wash.

You’ll play a pivotal role within our leadership community tackling the challenges and opportunities that comes with being in one of the fastest growing parts of the country. This is coupled with complex, integrated and long term environmental challenges associated with the unique environment around the Ouse Washes and Fens. You’ll also contribute to a strong national community providing strategic and tactical steer to develop the FCRM business.

We are looking in particular for someone who has the capability to lead the team in the identification and commissioning of infrastructure projects and oversee their delivery.

You will also be trained and tested such that you become ready to play an important role in our response to flood and other environmental incidents.
Flood and Coastal Risk Management plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does, helping to protect against flooding and minimising the impacts caused by any floods that occur.

Partnerships and Strategic Overview teams help set the long term direction for flood risk management locally and work closely with Local Authorities, Internal Drainage Boards, private sector partners and communities to advise, fund, develop, manage, regulate and deliver flood risk projects and works.
You'll bring strong organisational awareness, and your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be complimented by your enthusiasm to achieve results and your ability to lead and coach others to do the same.
In addition you'll have
- The ability to translate organisational outcomes into plans and programmes for delivery
- Delivered results through others by overseeing staff, coaching and mentoring. Experience of doing this beyond your immediate team will be an advantage
- Experience working with internal and external partners to help deliver the outcomes of both a specific function/project/team and the wider organisation.
- A record of delivering work within a programme and project management framework to time, cost and quality.
- Demonstrating political awareness and sensitivity when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities

CIWEM or ICE Membership is desirable

The grade rate for the role is £43,344.

Hours of work: 37 hours per week.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

Some standby and on-call work will be required. You'll also be required to take part in incident response. Your line manager will confirm the specific arrangements with you depending on your role.
