The Anglian Central Regional Flood and Coastal Committee (RFCC) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Strategic Flood Risk Planning Advisor. This new and exciting role will focus on delivery of the growth agenda in the River Great Ouse catchment, to bring innovation and assurance in how the planning process considers flood risk betterment.
Challenging flood risk meets substantial growth and development within the geography covered by the Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs). This pioneering role will work with LLFAs in the Great Ouse catchment, to advocate flood risk management throughout the planning process.

Agility and collaboration will be key in working with the following LLFAs, and their Local Planning Authorities (LPAs):
• Bedford Borough Council
• Buckinghamshire County Council
• Central Bedfordshire Council
• Cambridgeshire County Council
• Essex County Council
• Milton Keynes Council
• Norfolk County Council
• Northamptonshire County Council
• Suffolk County Council
Our Partnership and Strategic Overview (PSO) teams lead the way in Environment Agency flood risk management and sustainable development. The team improve and maintain flood risk data, to influence the location and management elements of new development.

Alliancing with other Risk Management Authorities, the team develop cutting edge flood risk management projects. We promote agility and collaboration with partners, to understand and manage flood risk in communities at greatest risk.
The leading candidate will be driven and passionate about making a difference. Communication skills are key, as is confidence in negotiating and influencing external organisations.

The opportunities presented by this role are:
• Ensure existing flood risk infrastructure is recognised and embedded within the planning environment,
• Achieve flood risk betterment opportunities as part of the growth agenda,
• Contribute to strategic documents such as Local Plan policies, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments (SFRAs), and Neighbourhood Plans;
• Identify new policies and procedures,
• Ensure that flood risk betterment opportunities are considered for strategic development sites,
• Provide specialist advice and training to support Local Authority flood risk and planning officers.

Networking with many organisations including Environment Agency teams, LLFAs/LPAs, Internal Drainage Boards, water companies, developers and their consultants and contributing to associated forums, will be key to successful delivery of outcomes and the creation of sustainable development.
The contract term for this post is 23 months from commencement of employment.

The grade rate for the role is £33,990.

The new role will be formally employed, and hosted, by the Environment Agency at their Brampton office (PE28 4NE). The role allows for working from a range of different locations and travel between the LLFAs listed above will be essential.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

You'll need to be able to communicate technical / complex information to a wide range of customers and partners effectively. Driving licence required
