As a Technical Officer in Modelling and Forecasting you will support on technical delivery of flood models/forecasts. This includes developing, adapting and reviewing flood models and associated reports including hydrology, and associated outputs such as mapping and forecast thresholds.
Our Inland teams are experts in river flooding and hydrology. They also support delivery of flood incident response from our seven flood forecasting centres and work closely with a range of partners, from environmental consultants to the national Flood Forecasting Centre. They work on strategic projects helping us to prepare communities for future floods and determine appropriate flood mitigation solutions.
You’ll come to us with a relevant scientific degree (e.g. physical geography, environment science or civil engineering) and an understanding and experience of flood hydrology and river modelling and forecasting techniques and concepts. Experience of working with real-time flood forecasting or rainfall run-off models, along with an understanding of hydrology and incident management experience are desirable. You will have experience of reviewing others work and providing feedback; experience of translating customer needs into output and of presenting and explaining outputs to customers.
You will also need to demonstrate that you are well organized and able to work to tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to the role.
