You’ll enjoy working outdoors in all weathers in a physically demanding job. The work is varied and involves taking environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, boats, coastal waters and commercial businesses. You will be working alone for the majority of the time but part of a wider supportive team.
You will be trained to collect samples using relevant equipment and entering data on smart phone or tablet.
The job will involves driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment, working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and ensure you follow current Health and Safety procedures.
We collect field based samples for both local, national and statutory requirements. The samples collected provide key data for multiple teams across the Environment Agency.
The Merseyside and Mercia Team is dispersed and covers from Shrewsbury up to Manchester and Liverpool.
This is a field based role and requires extensive driving in urban and rural locations
We’re seeking candidates who are happy to work in all weathers and environments. Full on the job training and support will be provided by your team.
A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
Other key requirements for this job include
• basic computer literacy
• working with smartphone technology
• attention to detail,
• orderly and good at following set instructions
• reliable and able to work on your own as well as part of the wider team
• navigational skills – the ability to find your way around urban and rural areas.
• comfortable driving a van
• comfortable working in and near water
An environmental background is not essential.
The core hours for this role are 37 per week Monday to Friday
The base location for this role will be Shrewsbury where you will be required to pick up equipment and drop off samples most days. The majority of the time however you will be outside collecting samples from different locations across the team territory.

Full UK driving licence
