You’ll be embedded in project teams to deliver our organisation’s strategic ambitions. Your positive behaviours and attitude will see you working effectively across high performing teams, including with other internal functions and with our delivery partners. You’ll develop your skills and experience to support, advise and direct them, facilitating collaborative and efficient ways of working. We’ll expect you to enhance the entire project delivery process, from initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction and delivery.

You’ll use your interpersonal skills to influence team members, and internal and external stakeholders. You will develop your commercial knowledge to assist in the procurement and administration of contracts, assessing risk and establishing effective supplier partner relationships.

As Assistant Project Manager on flood risk management projects, you’ll work with Project Managers: using project management tools to set up projects and reporting procedures; following assurance and approval processes to check that deliverables fulfil scope requirements that meet our processes and guidance and; adopting collaborative ways of working to ensure the smooth running of projects. You will attend meetings, workshops and public drop-in sessions, prepare visual displays, presentation material and newsletters and talk to communities about flood risk and different options for managing flooding.
Programme and Contract Management (PCM) deliver high profile and large scale projects within our flood risk management portfolio. These include asset management programmes of work, new flood risk schemes and environmental improvement projects. The team includes project managers of varying levels of background, experience and seniority, who work within a supportive environment where every team member’s contribution is valued. Our technical team manage projects throughout their lifecycle from feasibility studies, detailed design and into construction.
Ideally, you’ll have a degree or experience in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline and be keen to work towards membership of a professional body such as the ICE, CIWEM or APMP.

You may have some technical knowledge in areas such as: GIS & data management skills, river modelling, feasibility assessment, business case development, project management, contract administration, H&S, engineering and construction.

Ideally, you’ll have some flood risk, project, financial or contract management experience and you can demonstrate that you can work independently with strong interpersonal skills. You will also have an aptitude for problem solving and for tackling tough, technical challenges to ensure results are achieved. You will be flexible in your approach and be confident talking to stakeholders and the local community independently, at public drop-in sessions. You will be well organised, have good numeracy skills and be competent at using Microsoft office.
