You will help to operate and maintain river and coastal assets and work to counteract the causes of flooding and pollution alongside contributing to our responsibilities relating to the protection and enhancement of the environment in England.

Delivering routine maintenance for our assets, you will help protect properties and infrastructure by maintaining flood defences and river channels to maintain conveyance. This physical role involves working as part of a team, outside in all weathers, using a variety of different tools and equipment to carry out tasks, such as site maintenance, debris removal and minor construction.

We act quickly when flooding or environmental impacts occur, providing an emergency response both during and outside of our normal working hours by participating in an incident standby/call out rota. You will be trained and supported to contribute to our incident response.
Our Field teams have a range of technical skills they use to deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and incident response. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment including plant.

A requirement of this role is to complete the Environment Agency field worker apprenticeship scheme. Enrolment is compulsory but you will be funded and supported through the 18 month programme.
The Operations field team is based at Leigh and Sale depot, delivering a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourses across the area and responding to flooding and environmental incidents. We provide advice and support to our colleagues in Asset performance, Biodiversity and Environment management. We also work across the country when required to assist with flood and environmental impact response.

• Competent in using IT systems, such as iPads and a willingness to learn our in-house systems.
• A full driving licence is essential.
• Literacy and numeracy skills are required.
• You will be trained and supported to contribute to our response to incidents inside and outside of normal working hours
