We are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage the Environment Agency’s (EA) delivery role in Defra’s Slurry Infrastructure Grant scheme. The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) are administering the scheme, which is designed to improve slurry storage and protect the environment from nutrient pollution. We will be supporting the RPA by checking applications meet regulations we are responsible for.
You will manage the new, small National Assurance Team who will assess the applications. You will ensure the team deliver results on time, to required standards, in line with processes and procedures, and meet the agreements made with the RPA and Defra. This will involve working with colleagues from across EA, Defra, RPA and Natural England. You will undertake evaluation and monitoring to make sure the team has workable and effective processes, providing feedback to Defra and RPA where appropriate.
Understanding of agriculture and slurry management would be useful. We are looking for someone to manage a technical team, their workload, processes and Defra group relationships. You will be able to deliver results through others. You will be an effective communicator with the ability to influence outcomes by building and maintaining effective relationships.
You will join the Environment Agency’s national (England) Future Agriculture Programme team. We are geographically dispersed but work closely together and will provide a welcoming and supportive environment. We work with colleagues across the Environment Agency, with Government, businesses and delivery partners to create a healthy environment.
We want someone who can manage and build a team. An experienced influencer and communicator. The grant scheme will be amended and improved over time. You will be comfortable working with a changing remit and working within Defra’s agile project management approach.
You will be politically sensitive with the ability to identify and understand reputational risks. You should have good communication and networking skills which will enable you to establish strong and influential relationships within Defra Group.
Managing a technical team, you’ll be comfortable delivering through others but be able to support staff with decision making and help find solutions. You will support the development, training and mentoring of your team to enhance their capabilities.
You will be able to interpret and evaluate evidence to propose solutions for problems and have experience of prioritising and delivering work. You will have the ability to design and implement systems and processes.
As a national role the location is flexible. Travel to various Environment Agency offices and other locations may be required as part of the role.
