Do you have an interest in the environment? Do you enjoy working with data and evidence and want to use that to help protect and enhance the lakes, rivers and coastal waters in Cumbria and Lancashire?
We have a vacancy for a Grade 4 Water Quality (WQ) Officer who will be able to support and deliver environmental improvements. You will work with others to gather, analyse, interpret, and share evidence with to maximise environmental outcomes and manage our highest risks.

Work will include but not be limited to the following:

• Contributing local evidence to inform water company planning (AMP) and delivery.
• Management of local data and water quality information
• Data handling such as analysis, mapping, and modelling
• Sharing and communicating evidence with others (internally/ externally)
• With the support of others, lead on specific areas/projects for the team
• Work with others such as internal teams, external partners, and a water company, provide advice and guidance to ensure the best holistic outcomes are achieved
• Support / lead on water quality input to local plans for protected areas such as, drinking water protected areas, bathing waters and strategic planning activities (e.g., River Basin Management Planning).
The Integrated Environmental Planning (IEP) team is a water planning team with specialists in water quality and water resources. We use data and evidence to plan and prioritise the delivery of environmental outcomes. We achieve this by working with others, bringing people together to ensure we are focusing on the right activities to drive major investment in the water environment. We participate in a wider national community of professionals working in water management.
Ideally a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant environmental discipline. Your broad knowledge/understanding and your ability to learn quickly will give you a platform to become an effective WQ Officer, who supports a broad range of catchment planning processes.

From your experience to date you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• experience of delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools;
• a broad range of technical knowledge together with strong interpersonal and team-working skills;
• be proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator, with experience of influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes;
• work as part of a team sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment
• managing multiple priorities and competing demands
• working & communicating with a range of customers and partners
• experience of using data manipulation and visualisation tools such as Excel and ArcGIS
