We're looking for a highly motivated and dynamic person to join the Environment Agency’s Yorkshire Sustainable Places Team. Your work will help create a better place in Yorkshire. You'll achieve this by influencing developers during pre-application discussions, Local Authorities through their strategic local plans and through our role as a statutory consultee on planning applications. Your work will help protect future generations from flooding, clean up land contamination, protect and improve water quality and enhance biodiversity.

The way we work is changing, so this is an exciting time to join the team. We're aiming to influence the planning system earlier and more strategically and to recover our costs when doing so.

Your role will also involve supporting the organisation's incident response role.
The Yorkshire Area Sustainable Places team is a very knowledgeable and supportive team to work in. The majority of officers have been in post for over 3 years and are available to provide coaching and support on all issues.

You'll also work closely with other internal technical teams to produce consolidated planning responses on behalf of the Environment Agency.
Experience of working in partnership with others and of the English Town and Country Planning System is essential. A relevant environmental science or geography qualification would also be desirable. We are particularly keen to hear from people with proven experience of preparation of local plans and policy. We also welcome interest from individuals who have experience of partnership working and an awareness of the planning system in a wider environmental role, and who are keen to learn new skills. The most important thing is your energy and willingness to learn, a real desire to achieve the best environmental outcomes and a flexible, creative approach to move with our changing ways of working.
Closing Date: 20 August 2017 at 23:55 hours

The Yorkshire Sustainable Places team is currently split between our Leeds and York offices. Candidates are likely to be based at our Leeds office, but there may be an expectation to spend time in both offices, to undertake site visits and to attend meetings at external venues.

Please contact Rachel Jones (Sustainable Places Team Leader) on 0203 025 6701 if you'd like for information or to discuss the role further.
