As a Senior Team leader in Flood Hydrology you will lead a small technical advisory team in supporting the technical delivery of modelling and forecasting work to support the delivery of the prioritised programme. In addition, you will support the development and delivery of strategic priorities to enable M&F to lead with confidence in flood hydrology, with a focus on embedding ways of working, new methodologies and improved datasets. This role will suit a leader in hydrology, with a desire to see the practitioners of the science in the organisation collaborate across high and low flows.

As Hydrology Senior Team Leader you will:

•Nurture and raise the profile of the unique and limited technical skills within the Flood Hydrology Team, seeking to promote the importance of hydrology practice and science across all teams essential to the water cycle
•Develop new techniques to assess hydrology so that it is resilient to the changes in customer requirements and scientific knowledge
•Lead, motivate and inspire the flood hydrology team and delivery, both locally and nationally
•Monitor decision making on resources, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of priorities
•Develop and motivate team to ensure an effective and appropriately skilled team is maintained.
Each of our teams includes experts in river flooding and forecasting. They support delivery of flood incident response and work closely with a range of partners, from environmental consultants to the national Flood Forecasting Centre.

They work on strategic projects helping us to prepare communities for future floods and determine appropriate flood mitigation solutions. The Flood Hydrology Team provides technical support, both operationally and strategically on complex hydrology, flood estimation methodology and developing science.
You'll bring expert hydrological and organisational awareness. You will have experience of applying scientific knowledge (Hydrology and preferably Flood Estimation) to provide sound, science-based evidence to our internal and external customers.

Through your experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

•Political awareness and sensitivity when dealing with customers and stakeholders
•Expertise to work across the EA to advise on best available hydrology solutions
•Ability to articulate hydrological solutions to problems in a simple, engaging way
•An aptitude for managing the commercial and political aspects of flood risk projects
•Ability to work collaboratively with other Team Leaders and Managers
•Effective in leading people, with strong motivational skills
•Good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills
•Good planning skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales
•Ability to foster and drive an environment of continuous improvement.
