This role is central to the effective management of flood risk. Reporting to the Partnerships & Strategic Overview Team Leader, you will fulfil a multi-purpose role delivering some of the teams’ core transactional work. The work will involve determining Flood risk activity permits, managing data to improve our flood risk maps, responding to customer enquiries and providing support to develop and deliver our Capital programme. This is an outward-facing role you will need to possess an exemplary customer service ethic and engage with a variety of customers seeking data requests or seeking advice and guidance on flood risk matters. You will share knowledge and experience with partner operating authorities such as Internal Drainage Boards and Lead Local Flood Authorities. You will also be expected to participate in an incident response role and support our incident management teams as and when required.
You will be member of the Partnerships & Strategic Overview (PSO) Team in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management department (FCRM) working across Somerset. The PSO team has an objective to work with partner organisations to reduce flood risk to people, homes, businesses and the environment. You will be working closely with the two other PSO teams in the Area. As well as with colleagues within the wider Environment Agency including Asset Performance, Sustainable Places.
You will need to have a proven background and experience with working in the Flood and Coastal risk management sector. The post requires a working knowledge of flood risk laws, regulations and powers. The role also demands a high sense of computer literacy, as word processing, spreadsheets, GIS and other forms of data management tools are fundamental to the role. As a public facing role you will need to demonstrate your proven communications skills and customer focus. It would be advantageous if you have project management skills also the ability to understand and use flood risk and hydraulic modelling tools. Bespoke programs are used to determine flood risk activity permits, although training will be provided for these applications. A full UK driving licence is needed for site work and for attending meetings within the operational Area.
