Provide PA and administrative support to the Heads of Function and their management teams, in order to support the efficient delivery of the functions' business objectives.
The HSW and IEM teams are dispersed teams, supporting the wider business to meet their legal obligations. We do this by providing business partner support; authoring operational instructions; undertaking assurance activities, such as audit; monitoring performance and reporting data; and by managing various IT systems and supplier contracts.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in:
Managing a confidential support service for a manager and ensuring they are made fully aware of all urgent/key items immediately to maximise the effectiveness of their time;
Providing efficient meeting organisation, so that meetings run smoothly and the best use is made of participant's time;
Coordinating and progress-chasing responses to actions delegated by the manager to ensure compliance with policies and procedures across the Environment Agency;
Producing a high quality and accurate service to produce reports, letters, presentation material and sometimes confidential correspondence to meet with Environment Agency standards;
Researching and compiling information/briefing material, as requested, to enable the manager to give effective presentations.
Co-ordinate diary management (including travel and accommodation) prioritise requests on a regular basis to ensure optimum and effective use of the Head of Function's time.
Closing Date: 28th November 2017 at 23:55 hours
Ideally the successful candidate will be co-located with one of the two managers they will support in either Bristol or Norwich. However, location can be flexible for the right candidate.
We are keen for our staff to grow to meet their full potential (e.g. a previous post holder achieved professional qualifications and is now a HSW Business Partner). If it suits the successful candidate, we would support them to undertake an apprenticeship in HSW with IEM.
For more details, please contact Richard Houghton, DD HSW (07818 016879) or Simon Dawes, Head IEM (07771 958305). Interviews will take place around 30 November, at a location chosen to minimise the candidates' travelling.

Basic Check
Communicates Effectively
Delivering in partnership with colleagues across the Environment Agency is a key part of the team's role. The ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in all ways and to a range of audiences across the business is an essential skill. Please demonstrate, with examples, your experience of how you have achieved this competency.
Focuses on Customers and Partners
The team provides important services to the rest of the business, enabling them to meet their legal and other obligations. Great customer service is key to ensuring that we support the business in the most effective way possible, enabling them to deliver their environmental outcomes in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner. Please demonstrate, with examples, your experience of providing great customer service.
Manages Self
The role requires self-motivation, organisational skills and the ability to operate without immediate, day to day supervision. At least one of the two managers that you will support will not be based in your office, and both may be absent from the office for considerable periods. Please demonstrate, with examples, your experience of working in such an environment, and your capabilities of working with minimal supervision.
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
