We're looking for an experienced enforcement officer to join the Area Enforcement Team. This is a team that tackles high priority and serious and organised waste crime working both with offenders directly and at illegal and permitted sites. You will exploit internal/external networks to do whatever it takes to stop the illegal activity or bring it into regulatory compliance.
As a Senior Officer, you will lead on and support the team with the construction of case-files and lead and support complex investigations into waste crime. It's also expected you'll blend this with crime prevention and disruption of offender's activities. Your knowledge of the waste industry will be high. You will understand how to improve team performance by welcoming challenge and continuous improvement and be competent in sharing new ways of doing things with the team. Our primary aim is to stop the illegal activity, but you will need your exceptional investigation skills when disruption alone is not enough. As part of your role you will also fulfil an incident role within our Incident Response Team helping to deal with incidents when required.
You'll join a small and dedicated Area Enforcement Team, who specialise in dealing with serious and significant environmental crime, principally investigating waste crime but also conducting investigations into serious water pollution or other environmental offending when required. To achieve our aims, we work closely with our regulatory teams across the Area and with enforcement and intelligence colleagues in other Areas and Nationally. We also routinely work with external enforcement bodies.
Outstanding, practitioner level investigatory skills and case file preparation in significant/serious/complex cases.
Ability to apply business processes and maximise the use of resources in an efficient and effective way.
Inspires the team through commitment, enthusiasm and by demonstrating personal accountability for their performance
Persistence and ability to apply consistent, significant pressure on offenders daily.
Experienced and creative in the disruption of offenders day to day activities and knowledge of what partner organisations can do on our behalf.
Understanding, experience of working within an intelligence led environment.
Significant experience of the waste industry and our powers to intervene.
Extensive working experience of relevant legislation including: Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, as well as that relating to waste management.
Ability to conduct advance witness and suspect interviews.
Crime scene and large scale exhibit management.
Communication with legal professionals, colleagues and partner enforcement Agencies.

There will be frequent and often un-scheduled travel to access field sites.
Occasional, but often intense periods of operational work will mean some night working or very early starts. You will be required to work away from your base location on occasions.
The post requires a full UK driving licence.
