Opportunities have arisen for three talented individuals to join teams across Governance and Engagement.

Adviser, Chief Executive’s Office: has principal responsibility for the Chief Executive’s workflow and schedule, and is an essential contributor to the execution of his business commitments and engagement activity.

Board Governance Adviser: a key player in the successful delivery of the meetings and responsibilities of the Environment Agency’s Board and Executive and their committees.

Government Relations Adviser: one of the principal points of contact for Secretary of State and ministers’ offices and an adviser to Environment Agency colleagues on parliamentary and political matters and MP engagement.

All roles involve:
Representing our senior leaders to ministers and key stakeholders
Acting as a key point of contact for internal and external customers
Adapting to shifting priorities and reacting to short notice requests from senior figures
Coordinating high quality briefings/papers for senior customers
Leading and coordinating effective visits and events
Building and maintaining effective working relationships across the Defra Group
Support and supervision of team members
Team working during incidents (including out of hours working)

Due to the direct support all three roles provide to key staff, all roles are based in London and attract London Weighting.
The roles are within the Governance and Engagement teams in the Chief Executive’s Directorate, a busy group focussed on supporting the senior leaders of the Environment Agency, including the Chair, Board and Chief Executive. The teams focus on managing engagement with Parliament, Ministers and MPs, supporting the governance of the Board and its Committees.

The three vacancies are in our Government Relations, Board Governance and Executive Support teams, who are all based in central London.
Essential

An understanding of when to ask colleagues for guidance and support
Experience in a customer-facing role, with an emphasis on building relationships with key stakeholders and maintaining the positive reputation of an office or service
Ability to work comfortably with senior managers
Ability to foster a broad network of contacts, building rapport and relationships
Good political judgement and awareness, and an understanding of parliamentary and Government processes (Government Relations Adviser)
Experience of taking accurate minutes in formal meetings (Board Governance Adviser)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines
Proven experience in a fast paced environment managing a demanding workload
Works well under pressure and adapts to shifting priorities

Desirable

Experience of working in an emergency or incident capacity
Experience in a large organisation or Government
Ability to present data and information in a clear, comprehensible style and format
