Groundwater is an important resource in our area utilised for potable, agricultural and industrial uses. In addition groundwater baseflow contributions to rivers and wetlands are vital to their ecological health. The successful candidate will play a role in safeguarding and improving this vital resource for future generations.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who will primarily focus on water resources, ensuring the correct balance between abstraction and the needs for the environment are maintained. The team member will work closely with internal teams and external customers across a range of hydrogeological problems. The diverse range of work makes this an exciting opportunity for anybody looking to develop a career in hydrogeology. Using a variety of tools and experience of the team, the team member will help solve complex hydrogeological problems and provide robust technical advice.

Main duties include:
• Undertaking Hydrogeological Risk Assessments.
• Analysing pumping test data.
• Supporting internal teams and customers by providing technical hydrogeological advice.
• Working with water companies and other abstractors to deliver environmental outcomes.
• Groundwater modelling input.
• Responding to planning applications.
The Groundwater and Contaminated Land Team is a multifunctional team focused on protecting both the quality and quantity of our groundwater resource and dealing with the legacy of land contamination. The team provides technical support to other operational teams including the National Permitting Service, Environment Management and Sustainable Places area teams. Our primary goal is to protect groundwater as a vital resource for current and future generations.
You’ll be qualified to at least degree level (or equivalent) in a Geoscience/Environmental related discipline and be able to demonstrate strong knowledge of water resources. A post graduate qualification in Hydrogeology is desirable but not essential.

You’ll possess proven ability/knowledge of hydrogeology, groundwater protection and how this relates to a sustainable use of water resources.
Proven ability of applying a risked based or prioritised approach to your work and the ability to make decisions based on best available evidence.

The candidate must have excellent communication skills, have a proficiency in using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and have experience of data handling, time and file management and excellent organisational skills.

Professional membership is strongly encouraged and it is desirable for the candidate to be a member of (or working towards) professional body membership.

Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body such as: CIWEM or the Geological Society.
