We’re a diverse organisation, responsible for wide ranging activities, serving a vibrant and complex community of 5.2 million people, with devolved cities, a substantial industrial legacy, world-class ports and waterways and an ambitious leading growth agenda.

This is no ordinary job – one day you’ll be working alongside the city regions to negotiate and influence their plans for the future, the next you will be thinking fast on your feet as a major incident unfolds, the next you will be holding a major multinational business to account - the variety of this role can bring immense satisfaction for someone with vision and energy.

You will lead a diverse portfolio of work, for example:

- Developing professional asset management and maintenance systems;
- A leading edge approach to contract and contractor management;
- Improving the environmental quality and resilience of places;
- Protecting communities from the devastating effects of flooding and environmental harm
- Strengthening environmental resilience and biodiversity enhancements
- Achieving a health and safety culture across operational delivery services and commissioned activities; and
- Inspiring and leading the teams that are the most visible face of our organisation during challenging times for communities.
We are seeking a great team player to join our evolving high performing Area Management team, with cultural change at its heart, making our environment great for people to live and work in.

You'll work closely with the Area Manager and fellow management team colleagues to deliver our vision. You will lead the area workforce planning group, and have a range of direct reports covering planning, programming and engagement across all our Area activities.
Anyone can make a profit; only a talented few can make a difference.

You’ll need to be an inspiring, future thinking and collaborative person to help us to put people and the environment at the heart of decision-making. You will be a strong people leader and work as part of a team but also with autonomy. You will need to be a credible leader who supports and inspires innovation, constantly strives for improvement and is able to secure the confidence and investment needed to change not only hearts and minds but also the places we live, work and play in.
