Drought is identified within the National Security Risk Register as a natural hazard that has the potential to cause significant disruption to the UK. The Environment Agency has a duty to safeguard water resources in England and make sure there is enough water available for people and the environment during times of drought. You’ll provide technical leadership on drought planning and response, be the face of the Environment Agency with some of our key customers and partners and work closely with Operations at an area and national level to ensure we are responding to key priorities and managing emerging risks.

• Work with drought communities/sectors to increase resilience and deliver improvements through others
• Support the team and others on writing technical briefings, guidance and responses to media enquiries etc.

We are keen to have a diverse workforce. We hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups and all sections of the community who have the required skills and experience for the role.
You will be part of the National Drought Team. The team sits in the E&B Water Management and Investment Team. The team leads and shapes operational and water sector preparedness to drought. Our outcome is to build resilience to drought impacts and improve our response when drought happens.
• You will have a strong background in water resources and drought.
• You will have a proven track record of strong working relationships with stakeholders from one or all of the following sectors: public water supply; agriculture; navigation and environment.

• You will have strong communication skills.
• You will have experience in influencing and advising customers, partners, and senior leaders.
• You will be good at solving problems and prioritising work to achieve results at pace and to high standards.
The work location is flexible, but you must have an office base. The post will require occasional travel. For an informal discussion about the role contact Stuart Sampson on 07917263803 or email stuart.sampson@environment-agency.gov.uk

Interviews will be held virtually and are scheduled for the last two weeks of June 2023.
