Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; helping to protect against flooding and minimising the risks caused by any floods that do occur. The work we do directly and in partnership with others reduces flood risk to communities in our Midlands Area.

In this role you will be:

- Be the first point of contact for customers enquiring about a permit, offering technical and practical advice.
- Completion of complex planning consultations for flood risk activities.
- Assist Senior Advisors with Project Management workloads.
- Co-ordinate responses to correspondence and enquiries, ensuring that customers receive responses within the agreed timeframe & assisting junior members of staff in this role.
- Facilitate effective working across the teams by maintaining and developing information storage and retrieval systems and keeping information up to date and readily accessible.

The role will be based at one of our West Midlands offices in Birmingham, Lichfield, Shrewsbury, or Tewkesbury. We promote a flexible working environment.

You will also enhance the Areas incident response capability by having an Incident Management role.
The Partnership and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team works with various partners including all Flood Risk Management Authorities and communities by providing advice for development proposals. We process permits for works and work closely with planners, to influence the location and design of new developments.

We compile and use the best available evidence through mapping/modelling and data work to inform our long-term plans and investment programmes for future flood schemes.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
• Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
• Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information.
• Good organisational skills and an ability to use MS Office.
• An understanding of the impact of flooding.
You’ll be part of a diverse and inclusive organisation which takes pride in welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. New starters in the Environment Agency are welcomed and given the training and support needed to succeed.
