We are seeking a Coastal GIS Analyst to join the Environment Agency’s Anglian Coastal Monitoring Programme (ACMP) team. The ACMP provides the evidence base needed for flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM) decisions. Supporting the EA and other maritime Risk Management Authorities to plan, design and deliver coastal strategies, shoreline management Plans, and investment programmes.

The role will include:

- Using GIS skills analyse data from in-house or external surveys, producing accurate reliable reports for a range of audiences. Using data including LIDAR, bathymetry, and topographic beach profiles.
- Writing/ updating scripts (python) to automate analysis and/or quality control processes.
- Visualising datasets and analysis outputs using WebApps to better communicate results.
- Represent the ACMP by participating in and contributing to technical working groups.
- Drive efficiencies in the ACMP through innovating and streamlining workflows and data management.
- Developing innovative GIS solutions for ACMP projects.
- Building relationships with the ACMP Partners, providing advice on the data and analysis products we produce.

You will be required to have an incident role and respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This will involve additional training and may attract an additional payment.
The ACMP is a small team which sits in National Monitoring Survey team, part of the Operations Directorate. Monitoring Survey works with Area monitoring teams to co-deliver all the monitoring requirements of the Environment Agency.

The team provide a range of specialist technical services, to enable effective evidence to be used across the business. This includes the collection of LiDAR, Aerial Photography and Bathymetry data.
- Hold a degree in a relevant scientific discipline e.g. GIS/ Remote Sensing/ Geography
- Excellent GIS capabilities with experience in ESRI ArcGIS, ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, Field Maps and have experience in learning new software swiftly.
- Experience of operational GIS delivery, analysing and interpreting large coastal data (such as LIDAR and Bathymetry) to deliver products to a range of audiences.
- Understanding of remote sensing techniques and geospatial data including satellite, airborne, marine and UAV data.
- Experience in driving efficiency through spatial data management and archiving.
- Experience of using python (particularly ArcPy) to automate and streamline geoprocessing tasks.
- Ability to work autonomously and problem solve, escalating where necessary.

It would be advantageous to have:

o Knowledge of coastal processes/ coastal risk management.
o Familiarity with the coast between Grimsby, Lincolnshire and Southend, Essex.
o Experience of working with a range of coastal stakeholders.

This role will handle and manage a significant archive of spatial data, undertaking analysis on parts or all of the archive to understand coastal trends and communicate coastal risk. The ACMP is constantly seeking better ways to analyse and interpret data to assist in coastal management, and using new monitoring techniques to gather better information.

In this role you will work closely with the ACMP’s Partners – both Environment Agency colleagues and Local Authorities. You will provide advice and guidance on our technical data to ensure their understanding, and produce analysis and reports to aid their coastal management decision making.
