We’re looking for a Technical Assistant to provide National system and associated data support across Incident Management. You’ll help us collate and review data and be able to present it in a visual and easy to understand way. You'll follow and update guidance and be able to communicate with system users.

This is a diverse role in a growing team, within a growing department, so there are lots of exciting new developments and changes to get involved with. This role makes a meaningful difference to frontline incident response through supporting our incident systems that are critical to ensuring our colleagues have access to the right data in order to enable timely decisions that protect people and the environment.

Typical responsibilities will include:

• Running and producing reports – engaging with customers of our data to ensure we are meeting their needs and looking for opportunities to improve and innovate where possible
• Data entry, review and quality assurance
• Liaising with users to promote best practice and build networks
• Administrative support and co-ordination of information from multiple sources
• System maintenance, including configuration and change testing, as required
• Involvement with change/improvement projects, as required
The role is within the Incident Systems team in Digital Services, part of Incident Management and Resilience. The Incident Systems team are responsible for managing and maintaining our key incident tools and the data held within them. The tools we currently look after include the Incident Management Toolbox, Electronic Roster Tool (ERT), National Incident Recording System (NIRS) and the Mutual Aid Tool (MAT). As National owners we provide expert advice and guidance in their use.
The successful candidate will:

• Have experience of manipulating and presenting data
• Be able to follow procedures, with a keen eye for detail
• Be flexible and adaptable to meet tight deadlines
• Be able to work independently with some supervision
• Have good communication skills, both oral and written
• Be very experienced in using Microsoft Excel. VBA skills would be desirable but not essential
