Do you have a passion for the natural environment and want to achieve improvements that make Greater Manchester, Merseyside, and Cheshire a better place for people and wildlife?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable person to work collaboratively with a range of internal teams and external organisations.
You will drive forward the development of environmental plans and projects that deliver multiple benefits for the water environment, seeking investment and partnership opportunities to support delivery of environmental outcomes and wider social/economic benefits.
You will have responsibility for a specific geographical area maintaining a strategic overview of its environmental needs but at times work across a wider area. You will take a flexible approach and look for opportunities to deliver key local priorities via new organisations / funding sources alongside current ones.
A key focus will be on project development and influencing partner activities to enable the delivery of environmental objectives. You will work with key stakeholders, particularly Catchment Partnerships, to ensure EA (Environment Agency) funded projects achieve agreed outcomes and provide value for money.
You will work independently as well as with other Catchment Coordinators, Project Managers, Programme Support and other specialist EA officers in the Area and Nationally.
The Environment Programme team deliver multiple benefits for the local environment, community, and business through cost-effective projects and by influencing investment in the environment. We aim to achieve outcomes that are wide ranging, however our key focus (largest funding) locally is on achieving priority outcomes for the water environment via the Water Environment Improvement Fund (WEIF). We are also responsible for programmes for fisheries, water resources and integrating projects with flood risk investment.
We are looking for candidates with either a degree in an environmental discipline, or equivalent relevant experience who can demonstrate skills in;

• Building and maintaining relationships with others and working in a collaborative way
• Strategic thinking and planning leading to decisions that achieve results
• Leading and influencing others at all levels
• Delivering results accurately, on time and to the agreed costs and outcomes
• Using evidence, data and understanding of environmental issues within the water environment to identify opportunities to address them
• Using communication skills and ability to take complex data and information and present it in an appropriate and engaging way.
Knowledge of project management and data visualisation skills would be desirable but are not essential.
A full driving licence is not essential as the Environment Agency supports the use of sustainable transport choices when site visits and attendance at external meetings are required.
Please note the fixed term until August 2022, this could become permanent for an external candidate. Applications for secondments into the EA from partner organisations are welcomed. Please contact the recruiting manager to discuss.
Any further Catchment Coordinator fixed term posts that become available within the next 6 months will be recruited to from this campaign without further advertising.
The EA is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share.
We are currently working virtually as a dispersed team, although some travel for essential face to face meetings or visiting sites in the field maybe required.
