The Principal Environmental Project Manager (PEPM) is a key role in National Environmental Assessment & Sustainability (NEAS), providing technical leadership on major projects in the Hub. You'll be responsible for the technical oversight of environmental risk and opportunities associated with the major project(s), including environmental governance, steer and the workstream lead for Environment and Sustainability. You will work together with colleagues and Delivery Partners to drive sustainable delivery of projects on the capital programme and ensure we have a sustainable pipeline of work.

You will also ensure technical environmental input and assurance to the wider programme and engage with statutory environmental stakeholders as appropriate. Working at programme level, you will maintain an overview of environmental risk and opportunity, ensuring the programme is legally compliant from an environmental perspective and champion the identification and delivery of environmental improvements.

With Sustainability being central to future flood risk management work, you'll support the preparation of the Sustainable Choices Plan for your Hub with Supply Partner Sustainability Leads and champion it’s delivery. You'll contribute to the collaborative Hub Sustainability Group which comprises EA staff and Delivery Partners. You'll engage with the Integrated Delivery Team as required to influence decisions relating to environment and sustainability.
We are the National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) team, part of Major Projects and Programme Delivery. NEAS oversee the effective management of environmental risk on our Flood Risk Management projects and identify and deliver environmental enhancements that create a better place. Our friendly team work together with colleagues, stakeholders and delivery partners to manage environmental risks and opportunities across our programme, by ensuring that sustainability is at the heart of what we do.
Essential:
•Educated in environmental science.
•Excellent legislative knowledge.

•Experience of significant infrastructure projects.
•Experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams.

Desirable:
•Membership of a professional environmental institute.
•Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management and FCRM project appraisal.
•Experience in mentoring and supporting colleagues.
•Qualified or conversant in PRINCE2 terminology.
Please be aware that the NEAS Team are currently working remotely. However, we will be following future EA guidance about remote and office working as and when that guidance is updated. As the role requires frequent travel to site and other offices, a full UK driving licence is essential.
