We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to work both inside and outside in a customer facing environment. As Barrage and Lock keeper at Barmby barrage you will be responsible in the safe running and management of the barrage and Navigational lock.

Responsibilities include:
• Managing and regulating water levels
• Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around the lock site, associated structures and reach
• Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
• Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
• Providing a timely and effective service and response to incidents through a 24 hour duty rota.
• Maintaining and developing health & safety good practices
• Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
• Liaising and working with professional partners
• Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage
• Collecting customer payments including license sales and tolls, and reconciling and managing petty cash.
The EA has responsibility to manage the barrage which holds back fresh River Derwent water from the saline River Ouse. By regulating the gates this allows the water company to abstract within its licence entitlement.
Additionally the Controller operates the lock so craft can move seamlessly through the structure. Our primary aim is to provide a first class service to our customers.
The role is based at Barmby Barrage and requires you to reside here.

Full training is provided including mandatory safety training and ongoing personal development.
Full UK Driving Licence Required.
