This role involves providing strong and effective leadership to a highly skilled team who manage our flood risk management structures across Bedfordshire or the Fens, in accordance with our asset management strategy. In doing so, you will be helping reduce flood risk to people and property and protecting communities from the devastating impacts of flooding. This includes maintaining and improving assets, such as flood walls, embankments, reservoirs and other structures to ensure that they remain at the required operational and safety standards.

You will also be working with external partners, suppliers and landowners as well as with internal teams to plan the future maintenance needs of the catchment. Your strong leadership will maintain the high standard of corporate and professional behaviours expected of the team and ensure successful delivery of important works, which protect people and property.

We are advertising for two asset performance team leader positions; one based in Ely and the other based out of Bedford or Brampton. These posts require the same skills and experience but cover different geographic locations.

The Environment Agency take part in incident response. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you depending on your role and circumstances.
The Asset Performance team is responsible for ensuring our flood risk management assets are constructed, inspected, surveyed, assessed, maintained and operated to agreed service levels. The team develop the maintenance program, identifying required works, producing evidence-based bids for funding and overseeing delivery.

The team plans how we respond to flood incidents, focusing on the operation of flood risk management assets and how we deliver the Environment Agency's operational response in collaboration with partners.
• Strong leadership skills with experience of managing teams and getting the best out of people
• A track record of delivering projects or programmes through others.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and stakeholders
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk management procedures and practices.
• Coaching and mentoring skills to get the best out of people and have an active role in their development.
• Strong budget management capabilities
• A common sense approach
• The ability to use their initiative, be flexible, innovate, solve problems and make decisions

Advantageous but not essential - Experience / knowledge of asset management and / or engineering within a flood risk / water management environment.

Essential - Full UK driving licence.

You'll be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary and there are fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
