An opportunity to join a flagship multi-agency science programme with a high profile with policy makers in Defra and HMT. We are looking for technical experts who relish the thrill of being in from the start to join the programme, which will change how we make environmental decisions in England.

As part of this role you will:
Assist with reviewing and implementing improvements to our national groundwater quality monitoring network;

Develop new national monitoring networks for groundwater ecology, groundwater dependent terrestrial ecosystems and water temperature;

Work closely with colleagues from across the EA, including those working on the groundwater infrastructure fund who are tasked with improving our groundwater monitoring assets;

Work collaboratively with the other NCEA projects to utilise innovative methods and approaches for monitoring;

Work collaboratively our external partners on network design;

Provide technical leadership across the Environment Agency for groundwater monitoring;

Deliver high quality, fit for purpose data and information to the public using our open data principles;

Prepare and deliver the pilot ‘test’ of the Sentinel process using a subset of our groundwater monitoring networks; and

Develop options to deliver the EA goal of becoming ‘a net zero organisation by 2030’.
The post is in the E&B Groundwater team. We are a dispersed team who will provide a welcoming and supportive environment for this role. We play an important role in managing groundwater resources and quality and preventing, and where appropriate, remediating contamination of groundwater. We advise Government to ensure that groundwater resources and quality regulation protects the environment, existing abstractors and supports sustainable and efficient use.
The post holder will be a Groundwater Quality monitoring specialist, with good leadership, influencing and communication skills. The post holder will have experience in delivering monitoring projects for the management and improvement of groundwater.

As a national role the location is flexible. Travel to various Environment Agency offices may be required as part of the role.
