When floods happen they can have devastating impacts on the communities they effect and the Environment Agency needs to be ready and prepared to ‘Think Big, Act Early and Be Visible’ in our response. As the Flood Incident Advisor in the Wessex Flood Resilience Team, you will work with the team and a range of internal and external partners to oversee the delivery our flood incident management service. You will:
- support planning and preparation for flood incident response, ensuring systems and procedures are maintained and that our staff are trained and exercised.
- participate in and lead area networks and groups to deliver a 1st class incident response.
- work alongside the Area Incident Team (AIT) to deliver flood exercises, both internally and with multi-agency partners.
- work with colleagues nationally to both influence and discover better ways of working.
- build relationships with external partners to ensure an effective multi-agency response to flooding.
- work with the Team Leader and other technical advisors to prioritise and manage the team’s workload and set the strategic direction of the team.
- provide leadership and technical expertise; acting as a coach and mentor to deliver through and develop skills in others.
The Flood Resilience Team has 3 main areas of accountability: Flood Incident Management, Flood Warning and Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Engagement. The Wessex Flood Resilience Team is based between 2 offices; Bridgwater and Blandford. We ensure that ourselves, our partners and our communities are prepared for flooding and are able to respond effectively before, during and after a flood.
As a Flood Incident Management Advisor, you will:
- be a strong communicator with evidence of the ability to convey complex information to a range of audiences,
- ability to work independently and demonstrate strong organisational skills to successfully prioritise, plan, monitor and track technical tasks,
- experience at influencing and working with others,
- demonstrate clear leadership and work well under pressure and in a team environment,
- have a constructive and open approach to changing FIM ways of working
The Environment Agency is a Category 1 responder. You will be expected to participate in our response to incidents and have a role in an incident, which may include out of hours working. Travel throughout the area is likely. Therefore a full driving licence is required for this role.
