A fantastic opportunity has arisen covering Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly working on the ground to be part of the Land Management Project.

We are looking for an Officer to work with landowners and managers to provide solutions to pollution and flooding caused by inappropriate land management practices.

You will work across Devon and Cornwall on a programme of catchments and river systems targeted by Agency and partner evidence. You will be responsible for customer relations, reporting and regulation where required.

You will ensure that environmental improvements are delivered through effective and innovative interventions, applying your experience of agricultural land management and suitable regulatory approaches.

You will work closely with land managers, a wide range of stakeholders and internal teams to address problems.
As a member of the Devon Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Environment Programme Team you will join a dynamic group which includes an Environment Programme Manager, Project Managers and Catchment Coordinators. We are a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive team with a good reputation for working across functions and organisations to make a positive difference to people and the environment.
Experience/skills required
You will have :
• an excellent understanding and experience of agriculture.
• an environmental or agricultural qualification and/or practical experience
• an ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
• experience of working under own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
• good organisational and IT skills

You will be able to talk to landowners with a good understanding of the challenges currently being experienced

Preferred but not essential
A Level 1 Environment Agency Warrant
An understanding of soils and how agricultural practices can cause damage and suitable soil improvement techniques.
An understanding of the Farming Rules for Water and the Environment Agency's Enforcement and Sanctions Policy.
This is a 2 year fixed term contract or assignment (for internal assignment you must have the agreement of your line manager that you can apply and then take up the position within 2 months of interview).
If future funding is secured the post may become permanent although this is not guaranteed.
You will need a valid driving licence as regular travel to site and partner offices is required. Occasionally you may be required to attend evening meetings with partners, there is no out of hours/ standby responsibilities associated with the Land Management Project.
