We’re recruiting to 4 positions across Partnership & Strategic Overview teams based in Addington, Kent. In a highly outward-facing role, you’ll lead on a range of activities to help manage our strategic overview to deliver the Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) Strategy. We offer a rewarding career both in terms of personal development as well as making a difference to people and businesses who are affected by flood risk now and in the future with climate change.

You’ll influence development through our role in planning and permitting. You’ll lead on developing relationships with key partners such as Councils and you’ll engage with a variety of customers seeking advice and guidance on flood risk matters. You’ll also have opportunities to support and lead on modelling and capital projects.

Good communication skills are required for working with colleagues, members of the public, consultants and professional partners. Every aspect of the role will contribute to our national resilience to climate and coastal change, and being part of making a nation ready to respond and adapt.

There will also be opportunities to get involved in our incident response roles during and after flooding and other environmental incidents. Full training will be provided.
We provide the technical and strategic overview of flooding across Kent and South London. We have a variety of work including planning, permitting, managing modelling and associated data as well as managing projects to contribute to the target of protecting 336,000 homes. We work with partners and help to develop strategic flood plans for communities at risk of flooding. We are a supportive and inclusive team, with learning and development actively encouraged.
We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about the environment with a technical mind-set to guide developers in design negotiations. You will use your knowledge and initiative to achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management and you’ll be a good communicator with experience of working with a range of stakeholders and communities and building good working relationships. A flexible approach will help you to prioritise your work and support other colleagues with key work activities. Knowledge of the Environment Agency's flood risk management responsibilities is desirable, as well as an understanding of Town and Country planning and how to influence good outcomes.

You will need a qualification related to flood risk management; eg engineering, hydrology, environmental science, geography and competent IT skills, ideally including GIS.

Some experience is required from a related field of work, for example engineering, customer engagement, geographic information management or projects.
The role will be based in Orchard House, ME19 5SH and interviews will be held in late October.
