EU Exit requires us to consider how we will manage chemicals regulation in the future. Existing chemical regulations will need to continue to operate efficiently after EU Exit to deliver a high level of environmental protection. •Produce formal comments and briefings during consultations and committee discussions on risk management of chemicals, and contribute economic analysis for UK regulatory dossiers or positions
•Ensure natural capital benefits are considered in future risk management decisions.
•Help develop sustainable funding options for the regulation of chemicals and contribute to our decision making processes for prioritising regulatory effort.

You will use tools such as cost-benefit analysis, impact assessment and options appraisal in determining the appropriate type and level of intervention in responding to environment related market failures. Previous knowledge and experience of environmental risk management, chemicals and water pollution regulation would be beneficial. You will work closely with economists in the REACH Competent Authority and DEFRA.
You will be part of the Environment Agency national EU Exit Chemicals Programme. The Programme is leading work to develop the right organisational links, governance, activities, processes, systems and funding to protect the environment from chemical manufacture, use & disposal.
You will need to have experience of:

•Applying economic thinking to complex situations
•Developing relevant analysis to address policy questions
•Communicating complex analysis effectively
•Developing effective working relationships with internal and external specialists and stakeholders.
