We’re looking for enthusiastic people who want to make a difference to the area in which they live and work as part of a friendly, supportive team. As a Planning Officer you will promote environmentally sustainable housing, commercial development and infrastructure growth within the South East. You will do this by working closely with developers, local councils and technical experts through the development planning process.

In your role as Planning Officer you will liaise with a range of customers and coordinate advice from technical teams on subjects including flood risk, contaminated land, biodiversity and pollution to water courses. You will influence proposed development to deliver safer development in harmony with its surrounding environment. You will also work closely with colleagues to continuously innovate and ensure we maintain a high quality of service. We have 1 role available in our Kent team and another in our London team.
Our Sustainable Places Team provides high quality advice on environmental matters to Local Planning Authorities and Developers. The Team is based near West Malling, Kent and also near to Westminster and our work is mainly focused within Kent and South London. Each team member has a geographical patch and is responsible for a development management and local plan workload.
Proven experience of:

- Dealing with and advising on development issues and / or on complex environmental problems;
- Demonstrable successful influencing of organisations and individuals;
- Communicating strategic and technical issues to a range of audiences;
- Working with others to deliver environmental benefits.

Desirable experience:

- Experience of working in planning and development sector;
- Knowledge and understanding of planning system and legal framework;
- Coaching/mentoring experience.
- RTPI membership would be an advantage
