We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join the NEAS North Team to provide a range of support services to our Flood & Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) teams across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber area to help develop new projects, ensure that environmental outcomes are maximised, assist in the development of partnerships, provide guidance to internal flood risk management teams and advisory services to assist Local Authorities and other Risk Management Authorities to appraise and deliver their own flood risk management schemes.
NEAS manages the environmental assessments and consents for the flood projects that the Environment Agency builds. You will be part of a team of environmental project managers and specialists who work closely with specialists from across the Agency, statutory bodies, consultants and contractors. Through close working with our Area clients you will ensure that projects and programmes have minimal environmental impact, uphold high standards in environmental design and contribute to national and regional environmental targets.
You will be a confident individual with a good working knowledge of flood risk management and environmental issues. You will have experience in the identification and management of environmental risk and a track record in delivering social and environmental outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with Area staff at all levels and with a variety of external partners and stakeholders. Your influencing and negotiating skills will be well developed and key in ensuring that environmental matters are effectively understood. You’ll be a champion for the environment and a strong leader with regard to environmental risk management. You will have experience reviewing statutory environmental statements and coordinating environmental impact assessments. You’ll be qualified in a relevant environmental or engineering discipline, as well as professional membership of an appropriate professional body e.g. IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM.

This is a 1 year fixed term assignment post. The role will be based at our office in Leeds but will involve regular travel across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber and Greater Manchester as well as occasional travel across the UK and some overnight stays. A full UK driving licence would be preferable but not essential.

Legislative Knowledge
Has a broad understanding of environmental legislation relevant to development projects, including UK EIA process, legislation and standards and the wider regulatory regime. Able to screen projects for EIA and advise on basic environmental compliance.
