This is an exciting opportunity in which you will use your drive and vision to provide leadership and direction to the Integrated Environment Planning team in East Midlands Area. You'll join a high performing group of people at a very important time in terms of influencing environmental improvements. The team leads the area’s water resources and water quality strategic planning.

You'll work with the team and your network across the area’s functions and national teams to identify environment planning priorities and maximise outcomes by making the best use of resources.

The successful candidates will be enthusiastic about developing themselves and others. You will be a positive role model who creates an open, inclusive, kind and trusting culture which supports people to perform at their best.

We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment. We are looking to strengthen our team with a flexible leader, someone inclusive and willing to challenge how we do things. We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve.

Alongside this, responding to incidents is a central part of what we do at the Environment Agency. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) Team works to ensure we achieve the greatest environmental outcomes. Working with operational teams, national colleagues, water companies and consultants, the team collates, analyses and shares data to produce environmental evidence that informs and drives area priorities and investment.

This role provides direction and leadership to the IEP team and forms an integral part of our EPE Leadership Team.
The successful candidate should enjoy the challenge of working in a busy team, with tight deadlines, and will be:
- passionate about managing, developing, and supporting a team with multiple priorities and competing demands.
- enthusiastic to achieve results and in your ability to lead others to do the same.
- a positive role model who embodies Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and can inspire, motivate, and enthuse a diverse range of people.
- able to balance and manage demands on the team from internal and external sources to help prioritise and manage workloads.
- an excellent communicator, who can influence teams and partners to think strategically when delivering environmental outcomes.
- able to influence the delivery of outcomes through others, often across multiple teams, and to influence our partners.
- apply your experience of managing the health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others.
The role will be based at Trentside Offices, Nottingham and whilst we have developed a more flexible approach to remote working, you will be expected to attend Trentside at least once a week.

On occasions you may need to travel to Environment Agency offices or customers’ sites/offices in the East Midlands Area and occasionally further afield.

The Environment Agency is committed to a culture of inclusion. We can learn and deliver our environmental outcomes better with a diverse team of employees. We welcome applications from all members of our community. We support flexible working, so please clearly include your preferred working arrangements on your application.

Basic Check
Influences and Persuades Others
Given the increasing focus on the water environment, both in the professional and public arena, the work of IEP in generating and maintaining our environmental evidence base, and helping to steer our interventions and enhancements has never been more crucial. Being the IEP TL requires ability to influence the delivery of these environmental outcomes through others, often involving and across multiple teams with differing drivers. Please describe how your experiences and skills would enable and facilitate this.
Leads People
With the fast paced, high priority work of this team, we are looking for a candidate who can build a positive team spirit and identity by creating a shared vision, positive culture of co-operation and mutual support, and who will encourage excellence, celebrate success, and defend actions where needed. This individual will need to provide leadership that inspires and motivates others to achieve their personal goals and the goals of the Environment Agency. Please describe how your experiences and skills would enable and facilitate this.
Manages the Business
The IEP teams customer base spans across multiple teams and as such they can often face the prospect of competing priorities. Couple this with the backdrop of finite funding and resource to deliver, and we can soon see the challenges in balancing the needs of the team and the business emerging. A constant quest to find ways to do more with less resource and to identify alternative sources of funding where appropriate. Please describe how your experiences and skills would enable and facilitate this.
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
