This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chief Scientist’s Group to help deliver important research on emerging areas of science to inform Environment Agency decision making on critical issues. You will support new and existing research projects on priority topics including addressing the impacts of climate change, moving to net zero and understanding the risks posed by microbes in the environment, working closely with our research leads to ensure that projects run smoothly. You will also assist in the planning, collation, and interpretation of information for the development of future Research funding bids.

The post holder will:
•Provide project management assurance and support scientists and contribute to the smooth running and delivery of research projects.
•Work closely with project leads, research scientists and others within the Chief Scientist’s Group, wider Environment Agency, and Defra, particularly Procurement and Finance departments to help plan and deliver research projects and funding proposals.
•Liaise with partners and contractors in consultancy, academia, and research institutes as necessary.
•Prepare technical documents including project reports and contribute to the specification, management and delivery of project tasks including those delivered by partners or contractors.
•Help to raise the profile of our projects through effective reporting and communication.
You will join the Research Hub, a friendly team at the heart of the Chief Scientist’s Group. We help to deliver the research and evidence the Environment Agency needs to fulfil its duties.

The Group leads on science, research, analysis, and evaluation for the Environment Agency. We identify evidence gaps and emerging trends, source evidence and translate and communicate it in compelling ways.

•has project or programme management experience, ideally a relevant qualification and enthusiasm to develop further.

•has financial management, commercial and contract management experience.
•understands project and programme management methods and lifecycle.
•has experience in business planning activities such as allocation of resources and funding
•you are not expected to be a scientist but an interest in science and research would be an advantage and make this role particularly attractive.
This role is a fixed term contract based on a 37-hour week.

The Research Hub is a dispersed team with a core in Bristol. Remote working is not a barrier, and we have a flexible working policy. Much of our work is carried out virtually but some travel and overnight stays may be required to meet face to face.
