Our Engagement Specialists play a vital role in protecting and enhancing the Environment Agency's reputation. You will need to be an engagement professional, advising and supporting various technical teams with their engagement. You understand how and when to communicate with our stakeholders, whether they are MPs, partner organisations, or the public.

You will create clear and concise engagement strategies and materials, following our brand and Plain English principles. You will be on the frontline of championing great customer service to ensure that people find us easy to do business with and that we get it right first time more often. You will evaluate all engagement to ensure we achieve objectives and share good practice. We act as a mentor to Area teams, following the Working with others principles of engagement.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The Customers and Engagement team is a busy team that works with others to deliver excellent customer service to the Hertfordshire and North London area. The team plays an important role in managing relationships that are essential to our reputation and business delivery. Our engagement officers and specialists help teams to engage with customers, communities and partners. They protect our reputation and ensure we give clear, consistent messages around sensitive and emotive issues.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual who is passionate about making a difference. You must be an excellent communicator, able to produce high quality, plain English letters, briefings, and engagement material. You must be confident talking to customers and colleagues, on the phone and face to face, and be willing to facilitate meetings and activities. You will be able to listen and negotiate and show judgement and tact when dealing with challenging situations.

You must have experience in working with and influencing colleagues and be very organised. You are able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You must also be flexible to changing priorities and working patterns during incidents.

Understanding of the Working with others principles would be an advantage.

A positive attitude and enthusiasm are essential!
For further information about the role please contact Esther van Lith, Customers and Engagement Team Leader (02084747299 or by email at esther.vanlith@environment-agency.gov.uk ). The role we are offering is a fixed term contract. We welcome applications for flexible working patterns or job shares.

Our hybrid working model combines home and office working, however you will be expected to attend the office for certain meetings.
