We have a diverse team of 14 staff, you will be working on river and coastal defences, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution in all weather conditions, all year round.

As a Lead Team Member 3a in our Operations Field Team you will be expected to have a high level of skill in ground maintenance and operating tools and machinery. You will support our Specialist Team Members by:

• Overseeing Health, Safety & Wellbeing on site.
• Supporting the team on site.
• Mentoring others.
• Delivering work to a high standard.
• Ensuring work sites are operating legally and under Environment Agency policies and procedures

We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You will be asked to work in our 24-hour call-out rota and will have the opportunity to increase your salary with overtime and standby duty payments.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
We are a mixed team, responsible for the maintenance programmes on rivers and watercourses in the southeast corner including Ashford, Canterbury and Dover and respond to environmental incidents, such as flooding and pollution, both day and night. We also work across the country when other areas need assistance responding to environmental incidents.
With a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude and a committed team player. You will be well organised, keeping your tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in top condition. Along with good communication skills to work with customers and partners, you will have good time management and be capable of working alone in isolated locations.

You will demonstrate a good level of understanding or experience in all or some of the following:

• Health, Safety & Wellbeing awareness
• Tree & Vegetation management
• Use of power tools
• Use of ride on plant and equipment
• Light construction projects
• Legal requirements around the use of tools and equipment

You will need some experience using tablet-style computers and mobile technology.

The ideal candidate will be friendly, helpful, and willing to work with others. You will be assessed for these skills and behaviours over a six-month probation period.
