In Hertfordshire and North London managing water resources is a real challenge. We manage the Chalk Aquifer, crucial to provide drinking water as well as base flow to our beautiful Chalk Rivers, but also a geologically varied group of other aquifers, such as Gravels and Lower Greensand. Sustainable water resources management, protecting the environment, relies on the expertise of people like you. In our Area we are tackling tough issues like increased housing developments, and big infrastructural rail, airport and tunnel projects. Now we need people who aren't afraid to make and communicate technically challenging decisions to join us.
We are seeking an enthusiastic team member to join the Groundwater and Hydrology team. The team provides technical support to sustainable water resources decision making. Hydrogeologists and Hydrologists work together in our team and we work closely with the Groundwater and Land quality team on groundwater quality. Our Area is heavily dependent upon groundwater and you will play a critical role in safeguarding and improving this important resource and environment.
You’ll have a first degree in an earth science and a postgraduate degree in Hydrogeology or related subject. You’ll ideally have over five years post graduate experience in water resource and achieved professional membership. You'll also be a natural, enthusiastic communicator who can present convincing verbal and written arguments at all levels in often challenging circumstances of limited water resource availability. You have a common sense approach to problem solving, strong hydrogeological conceptualisation and model use skills. You also have a track record working with partners and stakeholders. Computer skills (ArcGIS, GW Vista, and MS Office) are essential.
Closing Date: 3rd July 2018 at 23:55 hours

The post is based in Welwyn Garden City office, with limited car parking. You'll work with other EA Areas, need to carry out site visits to understand and explain hydrogeological issues in the field, and require a full UK driving license.

You will work in and with the most diverse and inclusive teams in the EA. For further details contact Dr Giuseppe Frapporti, Groundwater and Hydrology Team Leader on +442084747310 or by email: giuseppe.frapporti@environment-agency.gov.uk.
