Are you looking for an exciting and dynamic role as broad and challenging as the environment itself?

An opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to join the Governance and Engagement directorate in the Environment Agency, to lead on our incident management programme and oversee the work of the Coordination Support Cell (CSC), which provides support to the executive team in the event of major flooding or environmental incidents.

We help organise Ministerial visits, provide briefings for government and key senior staff and ensure that materials are available for high-level meetings, including COBR meetings.

The advisor has principle responsibility for managing the day-to-day running of the CSC, including recruitment, communications and training for volunteer staff, managing our rosters, supporting national exercises and working with other national and area incident teams to ensure we are match-fit.

This role can be flexibly located, but regular travel to London and Bristol is required. In the event of an incident being declared, the postholder would be expected to co-locate with the Coordination Support Cell in our London office.

The role is within Governance and Engagement, a busy group focussed on supporting the senior leaders of the EA, including the Chair/Board and Chief Executive as well as engagement with Parliament, Ministers and MPs, supporting the governance of the Board and its Committees.

This role is in the Executive Support and Correspondence team – who are split between London and Bristol offices and provide day-to-day and incident support to the Chief Executive and executive team.
Essential
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines
• Proven experience working in a fast paced environment, an ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing priorities.
• Experience of working in an incident role, including out of hours and an understanding of our incident structures
• Experience of training, mentoring and coaching others
• Experience of managing customer and stakeholder expectations and maintaining the positive reputation of an office or service
• The ability to work comfortably with senior managers and foster a broad network of contacts across the business, building rapport and relationships

Desirable
• Comfortable using technical or IT systems to support work processes
• Knowledge / understanding of large organisations or Government
• An ability to present information/data in a clear, comprehensible style and format
• Good political judgement and awareness
