Do you want to make a difference right at the heart of the organisation? Imagine working with the Chair, Chief Executive, Board and Executive Directors(EDT) to ensure the Environment Agency delivers its outcomes for communities and the environment.

An opportunity has arisen for two talented individuals to join the Governance and Engagement directorate as Board Governance Advisors.

This may be a role to further your experience of Governance, or a developmental stretch or challenge.

The advisors have principle responsibility for end-to-end delivery of the Board/EDT's work, and are an essential part of planning and running senior level engagement activity, ensuring Governance standards are met, and liaising with others to ensure that plans are put in place in good time.

You will expected to join the Board/EDT for key engagements, taking accurate minutes, summarising discussions and ensuring that actions are acted upon.

You will need to:
• Be able to communicate effectively with senior leaders, both internally and externally
• Adapt to shifting priorities and be reactive to short notice requests
• Coordinate and assure the quality of material
• Lead and coordinate effective visits and events across the business to ensure work is planned in effectively.

The role is within the Governance and Engagement department in the Chief Executive’s Directorate, a busy group focussed on supporting the senior leaders of the Environment Agency, including the Chair and Chief Executive, as well as engagement with Parliament, Ministers and MPs, supporting the governance of the Board and its Committees.

These specific roles are in the Board Governance Team, who provide a professional secretariat to the Board and EDT and governance support/advice.
Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

An ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines

Proven experience working in a fast paced environment, an ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing priorities

The ability to work well under pressure

An understanding of when to ask colleagues for guidance and support

Experience in a customer-facing role, with an emphasis on building relationships with key stakeholders and maintaining the positive reputation of an office or service

The ability to work comfortably with senior managers and foster a broad network of contacts across the business, building rapport and relationships

Experience of taking accurate minutes/notes in formal/informal meetings

Desirable

Experience of working in an emergency or incident capacity involving out-of-hours work

Knowledge / understanding of large organisations or Government

An ability to present information/data in a clear, comprehensible style and format

Experience of line management

Good political judgement and awareness
This role will be part of a cross-functional team during incidents (including out of hours working).

Due to the direct support this role provides to the Board, this role is based in London. Flexible working from other sites might be possible on occasion.
