An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented individual to join the Chair’s Office as part of Governance and Engagement Directorate as Advisor to the Chair.

The advisor has principle responsibility for the Chair’s engagements and general workflow, and is an essential part of planning and running her engagement activity, focussing on working with others to ensure that plans are in place in good time.

You will expected to join the Chair for key engagements, summarising discussions and ensuring that actions are carried out.

You will also be expected to line manager the personal assistant in the Chair’s Office, who provides diary management and day-to-day support.

You will need to:
• Be able to communicate effectively with senior leaders, both internally and externally, recognising their needs and the organisation’s needs of them
• Adapt to shifting priorities and reactive to short notice requests
• Coordinate and assure the quality of briefings/papers and build relationships across the business to get this right
• Lead and coordinate an effective forward plan to ensure the Chair's work is planned in effectively
The role is within the Governance and Engagement department in the Chief Executive’s Directorate, a busy group focussed on supporting the senior leaders of the Environment Agency, including the Chair and Chief Executive, as well as engagement with Parliament, Ministers and MPs, supporting the governance of the Board and its Committees.

This specific role is in the Chair’s Office – a team of three, who support the Chair.
Essential

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

An ability to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines

Proven experience working in a fast paced environment, an ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing priorities

The ability to work well under pressure

An understanding of when to ask colleagues for guidance and support

Experience in a customer-facing role, with an emphasis on building relationships with key stakeholders and maintaining the positive reputation of an office or service

The ability to work comfortably with senior managers and foster a broad network of contacts across the business, building rapport and relationships

Experience of taking accurate minutes/notes in formal/informal meetings


Desirable

Experience of working in an emergency or incident capacity involving out-of-hours work

Knowledge / understanding of large organisations or Government

An ability to present information/data in a clear, comprehensible style and format

Experience of line management

Good political judgement and awareness

This role will also be part of a cross-functional team during incidents (including out of hours working).

Due to the direct support this role provides to the Chair this role must be based in London.
