• Select the most appropriate tools and techniques and advise the organisation on hydrological assessments and hydraulic modelling approaches.

• Act as a ‘point of contact’ for providing professional/technical expertise in flood modelling to the Environment Agency and partner organisations.

You will have an interest in diversity and nurturing other viewpoints and have a passion for developing people.
Evidence and Risk is a national team of 140 to provide expert analysis and advice to reduce the impact of hazards and improve resilience.

The team covers a range of technical services including flood modelling and hydrology underpinning the capital programme and land use planning.

The team undertakes the preparation and review of data, developing new approaches, tools and techniques, to support scope development, pre-gateway data and quality assurance and by working with key stakeholders.
Through experience to date you will ideally be able to demonstrate:

• Knowledge and experience in river modelling either in a real-time or ‘non-real time’
• Experience reviewing hydraulic models prepared by consultants for FRA’s or EA projects
• Experience creating and editing models using standard commercial modelling packages
• A working knowledge of data processing and GIS software packages, and highly computer literate
• Be able to work under pressure and be skilled at making decisions and acting on them
• You will demonstrate skills in influencing and persuading people
• Data management and standards will be a core part of your work
• Be willing to work flexibly, including taking on an out of hours duty role
• Experience in prioritising high profile programmes / projects and the ability to manage your own workload
• Excellent communication skills, enjoys building relationships, collaborating and agreeing expectations to deliver outcomes.
The post will be within the Strategic Delivery Team and will report to the Team Leader.
The appointment process will be undertaken remotely before the end June. Your base location will be one of our Area Offices. There is the requirement of some travel and occasional overnight stays. You’ll be expected to undertake an incident management role which will, on occasion, require you to work outside of office hours.
