An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and organised individual to join the team supporting our Chief Executive. This is a fast-paced role which works closely with James on a daily basis to assist him in leading the Environment Agency to fulfil its goals.

You will work as part of a small, busy team which work closely together to ensure James is fully supported in all he needs. You will mainly be responsible for James’ internal communication and engagement. This will include the commissioning of clear and succinct briefings, organising visits, and liaising with staff at all levels, for example the Executive Director’s Team, staff networks, ministerial offices, and other support staff across the business.

The role will also work across the Governance and Engagement Team’s wider work supporting internal staff engagement and work closely with our internal communications team to provide a joined up service to the business.

You will have the opportunity to join James in some internal and external engagement opportunities and to pursue your own personal development goals within the wide-ranging work of the team.

There is also the option to join the incident response team which supports the senior management during incidents.
The Chief Executive’s Office is a small, supportive team that delivers on behalf of the leadership of the organisation.

The team sits within the Governance and Engagement department. This department is focused on supporting our senior leaders, handling sensitive issues, and engaging with Parliament, Ministers and key stakeholders.

Despite the busy and sometimes unpredictable nature of the work we strive to ensure everyone has a fair work/life balance and the working pattern they need.
We are looking for an ambitious and highly organised team player with excellent communication skills and confident working at a senior level.

This role is ideal for anyone looking to learn how the senior leadership in the Environment Agency operate within a fast-paced working environment. It would suit someone with similar experience or someone with relevant skills who is looking challenge themselves with their next development opportunity.

You will have:
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
o The ability to condense complex information succinctly
o A proven ability to work quickly, re-prioritise frequently, deliver to tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
o Experience organising internal or external communication and/or engagement
o Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build, maintain and influence relationships with stakeholders
o Good political judgement and awareness of reputation management
o Experience or interest in working with senior leaders
The team will work virtually over the next few months. As the national situation changes the role may involve more travel, including some days working in London.
