An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Hertfordshire and North London Asset Performance team. You will take an active role in managing our flood risk assets. Your enthusiasm and positivity will help you find solutions and ensure our assets are inspected, surveyed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner to reduce flood risk.

Our flood assets range from critical large flood defence schemes and reservoirs through to small outfalls and flap valves. We perform an essential role in ensuring that people and property are protected from flooding by taking the right investment decision at the right time; based upon robust data.

This role is extremely varied and requires a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with other teams, you can expect to be involved in any of the following: asset inspection, data input and improvement, work planning, asset repair projects, working with communities and partners, incident response.

During an incident, you will be called upon to assist with our response. This may entail making decisions about the operation of our assets, problem solving issues, community engagement or more general tasks so that we as a business deliver our tactical/operational response in partnership with other responders.
Asset management plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; helping to protect against flooding and minimising the risks caused by any floods that occur. The work we do directly and in partnership with others reduces flood risk to communities. We look after a diverse range of assets in our area and we are a mix of engineers, asset managers, data officers, and asset inspectors.
You will be a confident communicator, with excellent customer service skills, as you will be working with internal and external partners, as well as with members of the public. This will be complimented by your enthusiasm and ambition to achieve defined deadlines and targets.

We're seeking qualified civil engineers and/or asset managers, preferably with relevant work experience in the flood risk sector. Through experience you will ideally need to demonstrate:
An understanding of the impact of flooding.
Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information.
Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
An appreciation of flood risk assets or asset management.
Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
Good organisational skills and a knowledge of a range of IT packages such as MS Office and generic databases.
Your answers to the capability questions will be used to determine interview selection.

Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all of the training and support you need to succeed. There are also fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.

The Environment Agency offer an extensive range of employee benefits For further information on this role, the employee benefits and the work of the Environment Agency, please download the candidate pack.

The successful applicant will be expected to be involved in our incident response remit which may involve out of hours working.

Interviews are expected to take place in June.
