Flooding represents a crucial challenge both now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. Having strategic overview of all sources of flooding, the Environment Agency has a key role in shaping our response to this challenge moving forwards and we’re investing £5.2bn funding to March 2027 to reduce flood risk to 336,000 homes across the UK.

We're looking to fill a Lead Local Flood Authority Advisor role in our Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team to support this work. This role is varied with focuses across:
• Project delivery
• Programme development
• Advice for Lead Local Flood Authorities

This is a one year fixed term assignment - INTERNAL CANDIDATES PLEASE NOTE that you must ensure you seek agreement from your line manager in order to apply for this role.
Partnership & Strategic Overview teams develop the technical knowledge needed to deliver a strategic overview of flooding. We work closely with others to understand and manage flood and coastal erosion risk in order to benefit communities with the greatest need. We work with all authorities and deliverers to specify, plan, fund and create assets to achieve outcomes, including influencing the location and flood management of new development through spatial planning.
Applicants should have experience in flood risk management and we are looking to fill two posts.

• Relevant degree / professional qualification
• Skilled at managing multiple priorities
• Ability to work on own initiative and within a team
• Problem solving ability using an intelligent, methodical approach
• Ability to build relationships, influence and work with stakeholders (both internal and external)
• Leadership skills and ability guide others

• Experience in managing projects from inception through to approval
• Experience of working with EA framework suppliers
• Ability to identify, appraise and develop flood risk solutions considering economics and buildability.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

You will be willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.

Base location will be Brampton. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions for the safety of our staff the role will involve home working.

The posts are full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered.

The Environment Agency take part in incident response. There are opportunities to get involved and support depending on your role and circumstances. If successful your line manager will discuss arrangements with you.

As an LLFA and IDB Advisor, you be required to identify priorities with RMAs to incorporate and build a strong pipeline of flood risk schemes for the future. Please tell us about when you have worked with others to identify and develop projects and investment.
A full driving licence is an essential requirement
