Do you want to be part of the national team that shapes work on the coast at the Environment Agency and beyond? We need an experienced and skilled advisor to work closely with colleagues across the Environment Agency, local authorities, Coastal Groups, Defra and many others on our strategic approach to managing coastal risk.

You will be providing technical expertise, advice and support regarding our high profile work on adaptation to coastal change.

This work involves working with operational teams and partners to translate the ambitions of the National FCERM Strategy into what happens on the ground, including supporting the Environment Agency’s programme of innovative resilience and adaptation projects, sharing good practice and latest knowledge on coastal adaptation as well as working with Defra and partner organisations to shape and deliver new mechanisms and guidance.

It’s an exciting time to work in the national team, at a time when coastal management is receiving significant attention throughout government and beyond.
Coast and Countryside is a small but expanding team within the Environment Agency's national Flood and Coastal Risk Management Directorate. We are based around the country working to influence how flood and coastal risk is managed. We work with operational colleagues, other Risk Management Authorities, Government and many non-government bodies. We are a central point of contact for river and coastal management, developing and sharing data, guidance and other resources to inform policy and delivery.
For this role you will have a good working knowledge of coastal flood and erosion risk management, and a strong appreciation of the multiple benefits derived from a sustainable, long term approach to adaptation. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent.

Experience & technical knowledge of adaptation to coastal change and the work of Government and its partners on the coast is highly desirable.

You will have strong communication, engagement and influencing skills, and demonstrable experience of problem solving. You will be used to prioritising your workload and delivering high quality results on time.

This is a national role and therefore will involve some travel across the country and overnight stays when restrictions allow.
This role is a 12 month assignment/fixed term contract based on a 37 hour week, although part time or job share opportunities will be considered. This role will be supporting our Senior Coastal Adaptation Advisor. Internal candidates will need line manager approval to apply.
