Along Eastbourne and Pevensey Bay there is a coastal flood risk to 10,000 properties and a wide spectrum of infrastructure. The flood risk in Eastbourne is managed by a local authority, and at Pevensey Bay by the Environment Agency both through beach management contracts. These contracts are due to expire in 2025.

This coastal project will be working with partners to deliver a Major Project, at a cost of over £100m, for the whole frontage. The project has a wide scope and promotes innovation, focussing on carbon reduction, biodiversity net gain and wider socio-economic benefits.

This role will be responsible for the strategic direction of the project ensuring its full potential is realised; guaranteeing that whole-life asset management and ISO 55000 is considered throughout project development; and advising on the delivery routes and commercial implications.

Once the scheme has been approved, the role will then ensure the effective management and delivery of the scheme from 2025. This is likely to be for at least 5 years.

You will work with a diverse group of people including the project team and partners to steer the scope and programme, ensuring the project is delivered to time and specification.
The role will be within the Pevensey and Ouse Asset Performance team. However, you will be working within the collaborative project team leading the delivery of the project. A partnership has also been developed with Eastbourne Borough Council and you will need to work closely with them too
Extensive technical leadership experience in driving and communicating the strategic direction of projects.
Experience in managing coastal defences, especially beach management contracts.
Experience in Assets Systems Management and managing the whole life of Flood and Coastal Risk Management assets in line with ISO 55000.
Strong skillset in working in collaborative partnerships.
Using collaborative partnerships to identify and develop innovative solutions to maximise outcomes.
Experience in project management of delivering projects and a detailed understanding of the required process, business cases & gateways.
Extensive experience in working with the relevant internal teams, project team, supply chain and partners to steer the scope and programme, ensuring successful delivery to time and required specification.
Strong demonstration of effective communication and influencing skills with the ability of translating technical information to a wider audience.
A demonstration of an inclusive approach to working with diverse groups of people with a diverse range of needs.
